Minutes
March 3, 2020
Present: Pat Panarese, Dottie Izard, Melody Hernan, Donna Capps, Mary Chambliss, Mary Jo Adcock, and Pat Schafer.
The meeting was called to order at 5:30p.m. by President Pat Panarese.
Opening prayer was led by Mary Jo Adcock.
Refreshments were provided by Mary Jo Adcock and Donna Capps.
Reports
Secretary, Melody Hernan, read the minutes from the February 4, 2020 meeting.
The minutes were approved as read.
Treasurer, Caroline Zimmer, was not present and no report was read,
Committee Reports
Layettes: Pat Panarese reported that we are doing well on the number of layettes. She plans to add one new one every three months. Pat found out that we are not the only church or group donating to this cause.
Sunshine: Donna Capps reported that she sent out 25 cards in February. She sent 2 get well cards and 2 sympathy cards. All the rest were either encouragement or thinking of you cards. She received positive feedback from the nursing homes who told her the residents loved their cards.
Funerals: Pat Schafer reported on the funeral luncheon for the family of Merceda Kreps. It was held on February 7, 2020 and 50 people were served.
Old Business
White elephant or Crafts: November Bazaar ideas were discussed. Melody Hernan suggested a craft making day or evening when we get together to make a craft for the bazaar. Pat Panarese suggested we get some old jeans from the Bargain Box and paint flowers on them with fabric paints. It was also suggested that we all look for things to donate to the White Elephant sale.
New Business
Easter Gifts: Pat Panarese led a discussion on making Easter Gifts bags for nursing home residents. We discussed what items to include in the bags. Pat Panarese, Dottie Izard, and Mary Chambliss volunteered to work on this project. Pat Panarese will get a tax letter from the office to use when shopping for the gift bag items.
Expenses: Pat Panarese received a Thank You Note from the Newman Center thanking us for our donation. Melody Hernan suggested that it was time to consider gifts for the new confirmation candidates. Pat Schafer will ask Lindy Hudson about the candidates. She will talk to Ronni Zawila about purchasing rosaries.
September Appreciation Dinner: A brief discussion was led by Pat Panarese. We discussed possible ideas for a theme and entertainment. It was suggested that we still need to sell the last 25-30 CCW Cookbooks and that we should sell them that evening. So far, we have sold 303.
Next Meeting: Our next meeting will be April 7, 2020 at 5:30p.m.

Opening prayer was led by Mary Jo Adcock.

Treasurer, Caroline Zimmer, was not present and there was no report given.
Committee Reports
Layettes: Pat Panarese reported that she has purchased a car seat and has delivered it to Good Samaritan Hospital. Pat said she asked them to keep the donation quiet, but it is there if it is needed. The hospital still has enough Layettes.
Sunshine: Donna Capps reported that she sent 20 cards in January. 16 were sent to nursing home residents to encourage them or to let them know we are thinking of them. 2 were sympathy cards. 1 Get Well card. 1 Baptism card.
Funeral Luncheons: Pat Schafer reported that we had one funeral luncheon for the family of Donna Perjenski. We received a thank you note and a donation to CCW from the family. On Friday, February 7, 2020, there will be a luncheon for the family of Merceda Kreps. Her daughter is Cindy Montgomery.
Old Business
Taste of St. Mary: Pat Panarese reported that Pat Yates is continuing to gather information about the event. Discussion followed about contacts for beer and wine sales, and whether we would need to pay for the beer and wine in advance.
New Business
Newman Center: The Newman Center sent us quilt raffle tickets. We decided not to donate to this. Donna Capps reported that Alpha and Omega roofing company did contact the Newman Center to offer help, but they already had a company for the work.
Expenses: Pat Panarese explained that Father Iffert sometimes asks CCW to provide items for the church. We discussed it and decided that she should let us know about the requests at our CCW meetings. Currently Pat is working to make baptismal robes for older children to wear during their baptism. She will make 4 different sizes. Pat has finished making the shrouds for the statues.
Dottie: Our Vice President, Dottie Izard, is recovering at home. We received a thank you note from Dottie for the get-well cards. It takes time to regain strength and we want her to take all the time she needs to get well.
Bill from J. S. Paluch Co.: We received a bill from this company. Pat Panarese will check with Sue Kusmer to see what the bill is for.
Next Meeting: Our next meeting will be March 3, 2020 at 5:30p.m.
Hostess for March: Mary Jo Adcock will be our hostess.

Reports
Secretary, Melody Hernan, read the minutes from the December 3, 2019 meeting. The minutes were approved with some corrections to the Treasurer’s report and the addition of crafts were also to be sold at the Cookie Walk.

Committee Reports
Layettes: Pat Panarese reported we still have enough layettes at Good Samaritan Hospital. Pat said she still needs to purchase the infant car seat.
Funeral Luncheons: Pat Schafer reported that we had three funeral luncheons. On December 7, 2019 we had the luncheon for the family of Don Farris. Seventy people were served. On December 10, 2019 we had the luncheon for the family of Kenneth Bell. Fifty people were served. On December 17, 2019 we had the luncheon for the family of Davina Overby. One hundred fourteen people were served that day.
Sunshine: Donna Capps reported that she sent out 5 cards. There were four sympathy cards sent and one encouraging card for Dottie Izard. Thank you, cards were received from Deacon Munie, Deacon Kabat, Theresa Doherty, Robin Adcock, and the family of Don Farris. Teresa Bell also sent a thank you card with a donation to CCW. Donna requested CCW members should contact her with the names of parish members who are sick or might need a card sent to them. Rose Rankin suggested we send a card to Mary Carlyle.
Old Business
Neuman Center: Pat Panarese reported that A $30.00 donation has been sent to the Neuman Center.
Cookie Walk: We made $1,000 last year and $700 this year. The 12 casseroles were enough. We had more fruit than we needed.
New Business
Neuman Center: We received a request for a donation towards a much-needed new roof. After discussion it was decided that we send a $200 donation for the new roof. Donna Capps suggested she could contact a roofing company she knows that might assist the Neuman Center in getting the roof.
Belleville Diocese Council of Catholic Women: $30 dues for 2020 will be sent.
NCCW Dues: It was decided not to send in the $100 dues.
Bazaar: Marty Simmons reported that craft sales were down this year. Only about 8 people donated items for the craft sale. Marty suggested that we consider dropping the craft sale and replace it with a White Elephant sale. We will discuss the November Bazaar again at the March meeting.
Dottie: Pat Panarese reported that Dottie Izard is now recovering at home and is in good spirits.
Taste of St. Mary’s: Pat Yates reported that the event would not be taking place due to the loss of the sponsor, Borowiak’s IGA. This sponsor donated $5,000 to this event. Pat suggested that CCW take over this event for the school and that we request help from the Knights of Columbus. Pat has spoken to the chairperson, Janelle Haney, and will get further information about the event.
Increasing Meeting Attendance: Marty Simmons suggested we print out Council of Catholic Women instead of the letters CCW in the church bulletin notice of our monthly meeting as many women may not know what that stands for. Marty also suggested we put notices inviting women of the parish to attend our meetings in the bulletin. Marty said we should consider advertising on the Media/TV in the gathering space. Pat Yates asked everyone to invite another parishioner to attend the next meeting.
Aprons: Pat Schafer has received aprons from Laura White’s husband. Pat Panarese is going to ask Zella to embroider them.
Next Meeting: The next CCW Meeting will be February 11, 2020 at 5:30p.m.

December 3, 2019

Reports
Secretary, Melody Hernan, read the minutes from the November 5, 2019 meeting. The date needed correcting and the addition of cookbooks will be sold at the Cookie Walk/Breakfast Brunch. The minutes were approved with the corrections.
Treasurer, Caroline Zimmer, reported that the November 7, 2019 Bazaar/Luncheon had a total intake of $4,06.75. The redeposit startup fund was $690.00. The net profit deposited was $3,516.75. She also listed a breakdown of the individual sales categories. Caroline Zimmer was installed as Treasurer on October 1, 2019. Caroline Zimmer received the checkbook today and she and Pat Panarese have visited the bank and their names are now on the account. Caroline will review the checkbook and bank statements and will prepare the report for the January 7, 2020 meeting.
Committee Reports
Layettes: President, Pat Panarese, reported that Joanna Franscavitch has resigned. Pat Panarese will take over the layettes. We still have three layettes at the hospital. Pat Panarese will take care of purchasing the car seat to be kept at the hospital for a needy family.
Funeral Luncheons: Pat Schafer reported that we had a luncheon on November 18, 2019 for the family of Floyd Brookman. 45 people were served. On Saturday, December 7, 2019 there will be a Memorial Service for Don Farris, father of Suzie Schmidt. A luncheon will follow the Memorial Service.
Sunshine: President, Pat Panarese thanked Donna Capps for accepting this position. Donna Capps reported that she sent out 27 cards in November. She sent Thinking of You cards to those in nursing homes. There is $31.05 available for stamps and she currently has a good supply of cards.
Old Business
Newman Center: A check for a donation of $30.00 will be written today and mailed to the Newman Center in Carbondale, Il.
November Bazaar: Pat Panarese led a discussion on the Bazaar. The possibility of changing to Saturday for this event was discussed. We will bring the Bazaar and the idea of changing from Thursday to Saturday up again either in January or February. We also discussed letting vendors sell candy or baked goods, increasing our presales, and the possibility of having both a Fall Bazaar and a Spring Bazaar. The Spring Bazaar would require a different lunch menu.
New Business
Cookie Walk: We have 12 people preparing breakfast egg bake casseroles. The volunteers are Melody Hernan, Mary Chambliss, Pat Panarese, Pat Schafer, Mary Wayer, Mary Jo Adcock, Vicki York, Pat Butler Ronnie Zawilla, Karen Rozycki, Jeanne Baker and Sharon Costa. We have 7 people bringing cut up fruit. The volunteers are Kim Bridwell, Shirley Boldwyn, Ann Collier, Cindy Sloan, Mary Jo Pemberton, Dorris Klotz, and Donna Capps. Pat Schafer and Vicki York will weigh and sell the cookies. We will need two more volunteers to weigh and sell cookies. Melody Hernan will sell the remaining cookbooks and pecans. Kitchen workers include Pat Panarese, Caroline Zimmer, and Mary Chambliss. We decided on serving coffee, milk, and hot chocolate. We will need to set up tables on Saturday. Pat Panarese will ask John Gleason to recruit some Knights to help set up the tables.
Pecan Sales: We did very well on our pecan sales before and after mass and at the Bazaar. The last 10 bags will be for sale at the Cookie Walk/Breakfast.
Dottie Izard: Pat Yates and Pat Panarese reported that Dottie is doing better and is recovering at Centralia Manor. Donna Capps will send out another card to her.
Cookbook Typists: Pate Yates led a discussion about the time-consuming work Robin Adcock and Pat Butler did in typing all our many recipes into the online publisher’s program. We decided to send a Thank You card with a $100.00 gift card to each of these hard-working ladies.
Christmas Cards & Gift: A Christmas card and a $100.00 gift will be given to Father John Iffert. A Christmas card and a $50.00 gift will be given to each of our deacons, George Munie and Mark Kabat.
Funeral Tablecloths and Centerpiece: Pat Yates brought up the idea of tablecloths and candle/floral centerpieces. We decided on blue tablecloths with gold round placemats and candles for the centerpieces. Pat Yates will shop for the items.
Election of Officers: Pat Panarese would like to have nominations and an election of officers. In September a notice will be placed in the church bulletin.
Hostess Sign Up: A hostess sign up sheet was passed. The hostess provides refreshments for the monthly meeting.

Treasurer, Vicki York, was not present. There was no report submitted.
Committee Reports
Layettes: President, Pat Panarese, reported that at this time there are three layettes at Good Samaritan Hospital. Pat said she will be checking on the layettes since she is volunteering at the hospital. A discussion about the need for an infant car seat for mothers in need followed. It was decided that CCW will purchase one car seat for this purpose. Pat Panarese will make the purchase of the car seat.
Funeral Luncheons: Pat Schafer reported that there was one funeral luncheon. It was for Charles Barciszewski on November 4, 2019. Forty people had been expected, but sixty-four people were served at the luncheon.
Sunshine: President, Pat Panarese, led a discussion of who might fill the position of chairman. The person will need to keep in touch with the office for information regarding baptisms, illnesses, and deaths. Thank you notes would also need to be sent as the need arises.
Old Business
Newman Center: The Newman Center sent us raffle tickets. Since it was too late to participate it was decided that we would send a $30.00 donation.
Pat Panarese needs to be reimbursed for $25.00.
Pat Panarese also requested a copy of the February 5, 2019 minutes. Pat and Caroline Zimmer need to go to the bank to have their names officially put on the CCW bank account.
New Business
Bazaar/ Luncheon: Pat Schafer reported that the set up for tables and chairs will be completed on Wednesday afternoon. Food preparation will also be finished by then. We will have a total of four vendor tables. Pat Panarese reported that pecans will be sold for $10.00 a bag. Cookbooks will also be available to purchase at $15.00 each. The other tables will be for craft items, the baked goods, the quilt raffle, and the stained-glass window. Please remember to bring pies for dessert.
Cookie Sale/ Breakfast: This event will be December 8, 2019. We will serve the breakfast casserole and fruit. Pecans will also be for sale as well as the cookies. Melody Hernan, Mary Chambliss, Pat Panarese, Pat Schafer, and Mary Wayer have volunteered to make a casserole. We will need at least 12 casseroles and will also need volunteers to provide fruit.
Pecan Sales: Pecans will be sold before and after mass at $10.00 a bag.
New Hostess Sign Up Sheet: Pat Panarese reported that she will have a sign up for volunteer hostesses for our monthly CCW meetings. The hostess provides refreshments for the meeting.

Reports
President, Pat Panarese, reported that Vicki York’s sister had a stroke and wouldn’t be here today. Pat also reported that Jim Rozycki has completed a stained-glass project that he is donating to CCW for our bazaar. A photo was passed around.
Secretary, Melody Hernan, read the minutes from April 12, 2019. The minutes were approved.
Treasurer, Vicki York, was not present. She submitted a report to Pat Panarese, and it was read aloud. The report was approved.

Layettes: No Report. Pat Panarese will call Joanna Franscavitch for an update. There was a discussion of infant car seats for needy mothers giving birth at Good Samaritan hospital.
Cookbook: Pat Yates reported that the books have been ordered. Mary Jo Adcock read the order aloud. 339 books will be sent to us. The cost was $2,691.60. We have paid this bill in full. A discussion followed and it was decided that the books would be sold for $15.00 each. Our expected profit will be $2, 393.40.
Funeral Luncheons: Pat Schafer that there were 2 luncheons. April 6, 2019 for Joe Mauro. It was held at the Episcopal Church. 46 people were served. On April 17, 2019 a luncheon for Bill Jones was held at St. Mary the Immaculate Conception Church. 125 people were served.

Old Business
Delivery of gifts to nursing homes and shut ins: Pat Panarese reported that the gifts were purchased, gift bagged and delivered. Pat Panarese, Dottie Izard, and Pat Yates made the deliveries. The gift included deodorant, lotion, small notebook, pen, candy and socks.
Rosaries given to RCIA recipients: Two rosaries were given May 4, 2019 and the rest will be given on May 19, 2019.
Still in need of treasurer position replacement: Caroline Zimmer expressed an interest in the position. After a brief discussion she said she would like to do this. Vicki York will be contacted to share information and provide training for the position.
Rose color vestment for Father John Iffert: Pat Schafer spoke to Father John and he will check on what he would like and the cost.
Purchase of new tables and chairs for the Fellowship room: Pat Schafer told Reid Sipes that CCW would like to help pay for the tables and chairs. Reid Sipes is checking into ordering the tables and chairs. After some discussion CCW thought the color gray would be an appropriate color choice. Tablecloths and runners were also discussed as possible future purchases for the funeral luncheons. It was suggested that the Knights of Columbus be invited to help with the cost of the tables and chairs.
New Business
Bills to be submitted to Vicki York: $175.57 for the 40 gifts for nursing home/shut- ins. $382.11 for the materials for the 6 banners and alter cloths made by Pat Panarese.
Pat Panarese reported that Father John Iffert has requested shrouds for the statues and the crucifix be made before next Easter.
Pat Yates reported that the Young at Heart monthly lunches are not currently being well attended. She suggested that they be moved to the 3rd Sunday of the month following mass. Discussion followed.
Also, discussion followed about remembering to sign up for Kroger reward cards for a percentage to be donated to St. Mary’s school.
CCW will not meet in June and July. Our next meeting will be August 6, 2019. Our hostess will be Pat Yates.

Secretary: Copies of the March 5, 2019 Minutes were distributed. A motion was made to accept the minutes and second the motion. The minutes were approved.
Treasurer: Vicki York gave her report. All revenue came from Hughey Funeral home or the Funeral Luncheon costs.

Pat Schafer suggested we purchase a Rose Vestment for Father Iffert. A motion was made and second the motion. The motion was approved. The treasurer’s report was approved.
Committee Reports
Layettes: No Report. Pat Panarese will call Joanna Franscavitch for an update. Vicki York explained that there was a need for infant car seats for needy Mom’s at Good Samaritan Hospital. A previous program that provided car seats was eliminated. We will investigate the cost of infant car seats.
Funeral luncheons: Pat Schafer gave her report. There were 83 people served at the funeral luncheon for Mary Ruble on March 9th.

Old Business
Cookbook: Mary Jo Adcock gave the report. 667 total recipes have been submitted and typed. Mary Jo passed a page written by Father Iffert for us to read. Pat Manne passed the prayer before meals. There were two formats and we voted on one to be included in the cook book. Mary Jo gave us information on ordering the cook books. The final number and the cost are still to be determined. Mary Jo will give the ordering information to Pat Yates to complete our order.
New Business
Gifts for Shut Ins/ Nursing Home Residents: Pat Panarese led a discussion of the types of items to include in the gift. We will need a list of parishioners who would be receiving these gifts. Pat Panarese will ask Janice Gahagan for the list.
Rosary for RCIA: Three rosaries are needed. Pat Schafer will call Ronnie Zawilla about ordering the rosaries.
Pat Schafer reported that the Knights of Columbus purchased a new fryer for $2,500. The Knights would like CCW to contribute $500. A motion was made, it was seconded, and passed.
Our next meeting is May 6th.
The hostess will be Pat Manne.

Funeral Luncheons: Pat Schafer gave the report. February 4th for Robert Aydt (51 people were served), February 6th for Barbara Lawrence (36 people were served), February 12th for Clyde David Capps ( 65 people were served), February 16th for Frank Kramer we brought food to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and helped serve, February 26th for Connie Sterner, and March 2nd for William Zinzilieta we brought food over to Logan Street Baptist Church. Debbie Shields Funeral Mass held in Alabama and Adeline Ambolo was cremated and the Memorial Mass will be held on a later date.
Sunshine: Janice Gahagan gave the report. Items left from funeral lunches that were not picked up will be donated to a charity thrift shop by March 17th. CCW might like to keep the crock pot if it isn’t claimed. There is not enough space to store the items. Dorris Klotz has pneumonia and a get-well card will be sent to her. Janice said she needs help with the bereavement booklets. We will be signing a card for Ruth Jones during our next meeting.
Melody Hernan read thank you cards from Donna Capps, Elizabeth Moore, and Logan Street Baptist Church. We received a donation for funeral lunches from Elizabeth Moore.

Funeral Luncheons: Pat Schafer reported that there were 51 people served at the luncheon for Robert Aydt on February 4, 2019. Janice Gahagan is his cousin.
Sunshine: Janice Gahagan sent sympathy cards to the family of Robert Aydt. Congratulations card on the birth of Mackenzie Anne Foulks, daughter of Teresa and Michael Foulks. Sympathy card to Sue Kusmer and family whose mother, Fran Crabtree, passed away. A thinking of you card will be sent to Pete Smalley. Sympathy card to Father John Iffert whose Aunt, Ruth Beard, passed away. Also, a get-well card will be sent to Ken Bell. Janice will buy additional cards and stamps.
